  • Psychological Safety: We champion a stigma-free, inclusive environment that welcomes and celebrates mental health awareness and neurodiversity.
  • Digital Stewardship: Our standard of honor doesn’t stop at our physical doors. It extends fully to all online platforms, collaborative projects, and live-streamed content associated with The Connexion.
  • Restorative Justice: Disagreements happen, but here, we commit to resolving conflicts with grace, accountability, and a restorative approach.

We follow the golden rule

Policy on Honor, Respect, and the Celebration of Diversity

Article I: Purpose and Philosophy

The Connexion at Roseland is founded on the principle that every individual is created with inherent dignity. Our mission to “Connect, Create, and Grow” is only possible in an environment where every participant, educator, and volunteer feels valued for the unique perspective they bring to the community. This policy establishes the standards for fostering a culture of honor and a celebration of the diversity that makes us human.

Article II: The Standard of Honor and Respect

All members and participants are expected to engage with one another through a lens of “Honor First.” This includes:

  • Active Listening: Valuing the voice of every participant, from the youngest child to the most seasoned adult.
  • Affirmation: Choosing language that builds up and encourages the creative efforts of others in the arts, music, and education.
  • Emotional Intelligence: Approaching interactions with self-awareness, empathy, and an understanding of how our emotions and actions impact the collective atmosphere of the community.
  • Restorative Resolution: Addressing disagreements with grace and a commitment to restoration over retribution, seeking to understand harm and work toward healing the “culture of belonging.”

Article III: Celebration of Diversity and Accessibility

The Connexion recognizes that diversity—including age, background, ability, beliefs, and neurodiversity—is our greatest asset.

  • Intergenerational Enrichment: Intentionally creating spaces where different generations share wisdom, viewing age as a bridge rather than a barrier.
  • Neurodiversity and Sensory Inclusion: Striving to create sensory-friendly environments and inclusive learning structures that welcome diverse minds, recognizing that different cognitive perspectives lead to deeper creativity.
  • Inclusive Programming: Ensuring all activities are designed to be accessible and welcoming to individuals from all walks of life in the surrounding communities.
  • Cultural and Creative Discovery: Celebrating the various traditions, expressions, and intellectual property that participants bring; we honor creative labor by ensuring collaboration is built on consent and proper attribution.

Article IV: Mental Health and Holistic Well-Being

The Connexion recognizes that creative growth and community connection are rooted in mental and emotional health.

  • Psychological Safety: Creating a “brave space” where participants feel safe to express vulnerability and take creative risks without fear of judgment.
  • Creative Wellness: Utilizing the arts and music as restorative tools to reduce stress and build resilience.
  • Stigma Reduction: Affirming that seeking support is a sign of strength and a vital part of personal and communal growth.

Article V: Digital Stewardship

As our community exists both in person and online, members agree to uphold the standard of honor in all digital interactions related to The Connexion. This includes respectful discourse on social platforms, protecting participant privacy, and maintaining a constructive presence during live-streamed events.

Article VI: Prohibited Conduct

To maintain a safe and growth-oriented environment, the following behaviors are strictly prohibited:

  • Any form of harassment, discrimination, or demeaning speech directed at a member’s identity, background, or ability.
  • Behavior that undermines the physical or emotional safety of children or adults.
  • Actions that promote exclusion, tribalism, or the unauthorized use of another member’s creative work.

Article VII: Commitment to Growth and Accountability

We acknowledge that building an inclusive community is an ongoing journey. The Board of Trustees and the Session of Roseland Presbyterian Church are committed to:

  • Providing resources and education to help members honor diverse perspectives and neurodiverse needs.
  • Maintaining a transparent and accessible feedback loop, allowing members to safely suggest improvements to our inclusivity practices.
  • Ensuring leadership remains approachable and accountable for upholding these values.

Article VIII: Affirmation

By joining The Connexion, all members agree to uphold this policy, committing themselves to treat every person they encounter with the honor they deserve as a fellow human being.

Our Purpose

The purpose of The ConneXion is to provide more than physical space. We are building a place where people can form meaningful relationships, discover their abilities, share their gifts, and find encouragement from others.

We want The ConneXion to become a trusted home for creativity, education, recreation, wellness, mentorship, and community life in Roseland.

Whether someone comes to teach, learn, create, volunteer, receive support, or simply meet new people, we want them to leave feeling more connected than when they arrived.

The ConneXion belongs to everyone who helps bring it to life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can join The ConneXion?

The ConneXion welcomes individuals, families, educators, artists, students, small business owners, community groups, and people with skills they would like to share.

Whether you want to attend a program, teach a class, mentor others, organize a group, or use a private space, there may be a place for you here.

What is the Village Model?

The Village Model is our belief that everyone has something to teach and something to learn.

We create opportunities for children, young adults, parents, professionals, and older adults to share their skills and experiences with one another. Instead of separating people by age, we encourage different generations to connect and learn together.

Can I teach a class or lead a program?

Yes. We are actively looking for teachers, artists, tradespeople, technology professionals, mentors, wellness instructors, and other community members who want to share their knowledge.

You do not need to be part of a large organization. Individuals with a useful skill, thoughtful idea, or passion for helping others are encouraged to speak with us about creating a program.

Is there a membership or building-use fee?

Yes. Members and program participants pay a fee based on how they use the building.

Because The ConneXion is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, these fees are used to help cover operating expenses such as utilities, internet, cleaning, snow removal, maintenance, and building security.

Each participant receives a fee schedule based on their intended use of the facility.

Is a security deposit required?

Yes. A security deposit equal to one month’s participation fee may be required.

The deposit is refundable when a member leaves the program in good standing, provided that all payments have been made and there is no damage, missing property, or other unresolved responsibility.

Can I use the technology and equipment?

Certain rooms may include audio, video, broadcasting, sound, or technical equipment.

Some equipment may only be used after an orientation or under the supervision of a designated Steward. Members are expected to handle all equipment carefully and may be responsible for damage caused by misuse.

How are disagreements handled?

We understand that disagreements may happen in any active community.

Members are expected to address concerns respectfully and work toward a restorative solution. Our goal is not simply to assign blame, but to understand what happened, repair harm when possible, and protect the culture of belonging.

Serious or repeated violations may be reviewed by leadership and could result in the loss of membership or building access.

How is creative work protected?

We respect the time, ideas, and creative labor of every participant.

Collaborative work should only be shared, published, recorded, or reused with the consent of the people involved. Contributors should receive proper credit, and another person’s writing, music, artwork, recordings, or ideas may not be used without permission.

Are children allowed to participate?

Yes. The ConneXion is designed to support learning and connection across generations.

Programs involving children may require registration, parental permission, emergency contact information, approved supervision, background checks, or other safety procedures. Children must remain in the areas assigned to their program and follow all facility rules.

Does The ConneXion provide insurance?

The ConneXion maintains general liability insurance for the facility and its core operations.

However, members may still be responsible for maintaining their own health, professional, business, or property insurance. Certain instructors, organizations, or higher-risk programs may be required to provide proof of insurance before using the facility.
